A watchlist is a simple mechanism for maintaining a list of stock symbols and notes about this list of stock symbols. Watchlists can be contrasted with the more complex Stockworm portfolios where each symbol has associated with it a share amount, a date of purchase, a price, and a commission.
You have the standard options of 'save', 'save as', 'rename', 'delete', or 'share' (post to the Stockworm community forums) for each watchlist. If the watchlist is a Stockworm or Community watchlist, then only the 'save as' option will be available to you until you save it as your own. When initially constructing a watchlist, you have the option of automatically removing any invalid symbols which you may have typed in (otherwise, you will receive an error message indicating the problematic symbols).
You can quickly jump from a given watchlist to any Stockworm analysis section using the 'save and jump to' links on the left of the watchlist page.
Watchlist summary table
When you first enter the watchlists section, you will see a summary table listing all of the watchlists which you have previously created, along with tabs for Stockworm and Community watchlists:
You can view any watchlist by click on the name of the watchlist. You can also rename, delete, or share any of your watchlists using the appropriate links (you need to view and save 'stockworm' or 'community' watchlists as your own before you can modify them). The table can be sorted by watchlist name, notes, or date modified by clicking on the column heading links.
Creating new watchlists
You can easily create and modify watchlists manually by navigating to the 'watchlists' section of the site. A quick link is provided for creating a new watchlist or you can navigate to an existing watchlist using the 'my watchlists', 'stockworm watchlists', and 'community watchlists' tabs within the watchlist summary table.
'Add to watchlist' analysis links
Links are provided throughout the stock analysis sections to 'add to watchlist'. If you are viewing a list of stocks when you click this link (report card view), this link will prompt you to add all of the symbols in the list to a given watchlist. Otherwise, you will append the symbol which you are currently viewing to the watchlist. After clicking the 'add to watchlist' link, the following dialog will appear:
This dialog allows you to specify either an existing watchlist to which the new symbol(s) will be appended or create a new watchlist (select 'new watchlist' from the pulldown selection and then type in the name for this list). Clicking the 'submit' button will append the new symbol(s) to the selected list. If the 'jump to watchlist' box is checked, the main Stockworm window will jump to the selected watchlist so that, for example, you could add some notes about the new list. Otherwise, you will return to the same analysis window.
