The portfolio transactions view provides a detailed list of all portfolio transactions and includes options for editing or deleting transactions. If you wish to view a summary of your current holdings, rather than individual transactions, then refer to the holdings view.

Transaction detail table

The transaction detail table shows all stock and cash transactions which have been previously entered for this portfolio:

Multiple data items are provided for each transaction:

  • date - transaction date.
  • type - the type of the transaction: stock (buy/sell stock), cash (deposit/withdraw cash) or dividend (stock or cash dividend).
  • symbol - the stock symbol for stock transactions or 'cash' for cash transactions.
  • shares - the number of shares for stock transactions (blank for cash transactions). The sign and color of the shares will indicate buys (green, positive) versus sales (red, negative).
  • price - price paid for stock transactions (blank for cash transactions).
  • commission - transaction commission for stock transactions (blank for cash transactions).
  • net amount - the net amount of the transaction. This value will be green and positive for transactions which yield cash (stock sales and cash deposits) and red and negative for transactions which require cash (stock purchases and cash withdrawals).
  • use cash - an indication of whether or not the transaction net amount will change the cash balance of the portfolio (if use cash is 'yes', then the transaction amount will change the portfolio cash balance).
  • cash balance - the cash balance of the portfolio after the current transaction is taken into account.
  • edit/delete - these links allow for editing or deleting the current transaction.

Clicking on any of the column headings (e.g. date, symbol, etc.) the first time will sort the corresponding column in ascending order. Clicking a second time will sort the corresponding column in descending order.

Filtering transactions

The transaction filter profiles the opportunity to reduce a potentially length list of transactions to a more manageable and relevant list of transactions:

The from and to date selections determine the starting (from) and ending (to) dates for the transactions table. Any transactions which fall outside of this date range when 'filter' is clicked will not appear in the transactions table. Each date has a number of quick selections available in the pulldown (today, 1 month ago, etc.) as well as a custom selection which will activate the date widget to the right of the pulldown.

The include symbols field, when filled with one or more stock symbols is used to isolate symbols in the transactions table. Several special symbols can be used: cash = $ or .CASH, stock dividend = .STOCKDIV, cash dividend = .CASHDIV, account fee = .FEE, account income = .INCOME. Only transactions which are relevant to the symbols in the list will be displayed. When this text field is blank, all symbols in the portfolio will be shown within the constraints of the displayed date range.

Click filter to view the results of your change(s) or show all to revert back to the full (unfiltered) transaction list for the portfolio.
