The simulation analysis section provides a set of key statistics for each simulation on the page. The fields in each section of the analysis page are described below. Note that standard deviations are provided for most of the opened and closed position statistics.
general info - the following fields are provided in the top section of the analysis page:
- status - the simulation status (queued, complete, etc.)
- from - the simulation starting date
- to - the simulation ending date
- frequency - the simulation update frequency (e.g. daily, weekly, etc.)
- price - the pricing model for the simulation (e.g. buy and sell at median)
- commission - the simulation commission model
- starting value - the starting value for the simulated portfolio
- ending value - the ending value for the simulated portfolio
- gain - the aggregate percentage gain
- annualized gain - the annualized simulation gain
- average trades/update - the average number of trades (opens and/or closes) per update
- average cash/update - the average cash held in the portfolio as a percentage of the portfolio value
opened positions - the following fields provide details about positions which were opened during the simulation(s):
- opened - the total number of positions opened
- average open price - the average price paid for opened positions.
- average open position size - the average dollar amount of opened positions.
- average % avg volume purchased - for each opened position, the number of shares as a percentage of the stock's average volume is recorded. This value is then averaged over all positions as a measure of whether or not the simulation is purchasing relatively stocks with poor liquidity.
closed positions - the following fields provide details about positions which were closed during the simulation(s):
- closed - the total number of positions closed
- profitable closes - the percentage of closed positions which were profitable (closed with a gain)
- average hold time - the average time held for closed positions
- average gain - the average gain (loss) for closed positions
- average winner gain - the average gain for positions which were 'winners' (closed at a profit)
- average loser loss - the average loss for positions which were 'losers' (closed at a loss)
