Managing a Portfolio with an Autoinvestor Strategy

The first step in managing a portfolio with the autoinvestor is to associate the portfolio with the strategy of your choosing. This can be done in one of two ways. The first way is to go to the strategy of interest and click on the 'manage' link for the portfolio that you are interesting in managing (this table is shown at the bottom of the standard or classic strategy editing page):

As you can see from the image above, you can also 'unmanage' any portfolio which the strategy is currently managing. The second way to associate a portfolio with a strategy is to visit the autoinvestor section of the portfolio pages. When you initially enter the portfolio autoinvestor page, you will see the autoinvestor settings form:

To associate an autoinvestor with the portfolio, simply select a strategy from the provided list and press 'save settings'. To view the currently selected strategy, click on the load button to the right of the strategy selection. If you would like to remove any autoinvestor association with the portfolio, select 'none' and press 'save settings'.

Running the autoinvestor interactively

To run the autoinvestor interactively and determine if there are any recommendations for your portfolio, simply press 'run autoinvestor' on the portfolio autoinvestor page. As can be seen from the tables below, the results are divided into three sections: close, open, and alternate open positions:

The close positions table represents the recommended closes for your portfolio using the given strategy. The numbers of shares to close along with the reason for the close are shown within this table. For every close recommendation, an open recommendation is provided to replace the closed position. Included with the open recommendation is a recommended purchase size.

If there are recommendations for open positions, one or more alternates can be provided for you to chose from (just change the alternates setting). These alternate open positions represent stocks which would be a reasonable substitute for the recommended opens, should you find that you do not wish to purchase one or more of the recommended opens.

Running the autoinvestor automatically

If you would like for the autoinvestor to automatically monitor your portfolio and send you an email every morning with recommendations, check the daily email button and then 'save settings'. You will receive an email each morning with your recommended actions for each portfolio.
