The portfolio holdings view provides a summary of open and closed portfolio positions including gain or loss figures for each holding. The open positions holdings view displays currently held positions along with the current (delayed quote), basis, and previous (last close) values for each holding. The closed positions holdings view displays previously held positions along with the closing value and basis for each closed position.

If you wish to view individual transactions, rather than a summary of transactions, or if you wish to edit or delete individual transactions, then refer to the transactions view. Note that the 'info' link will take you to the transactions view with only transactions related to the corresponding symbol displayed.

Both the open and closed holdings views feature the following options:

  • holdings table - the focal items in the holdings view are the open or closed position holdings tables (described below).
  • show positions open/closed - these radio buttons toggle between showing open and closed positions in your portfolio.

Open positions holdings table

The open positions holdings table shows each open position, including gains/losses between the holding acquisition date(s) and today and between the previous close and today:

A description of each data item in the open positions holdings table is provided below.

  • symbol - the stock symbol for the current holdings row, linked to the stock analysis section for this stock.
  • shares - the number of shares of this stock currently contained in the portfolio
  • date - transaction date for the open position. if multiple positions on different dates are present, then this date will be 'var' (various)
  • basis price - the amount paid for the stock. if multiple stock purchases are identified for a given stock, then dollar cost averaging will be used to establish the 'paid' price.
  • basis - the basis value for this holding
  • price - the most recent price for this stock.
  • value - the current value of the holding (price * shares)
  • $ gain - the dollar gain (loss) between the basis value and the current value
  • % gain - the percent gain (loss) between the basis value and the current value
  • $ today - the dollar gain (loss) between the previous closing value and the current value (the total is adjusted for cash deposits and/or withdrawals)
  • % today - the percent gain (loss) between the previous closing value and the current value (the total is adjusted for cash deposits and/or withdrawals)
  • info - this link will show all transactions related to the current symbol

Clicking on any of the column headings (e.g. symbol, gains, etc.) the first time will sort the corresponding column in ascending order. Clicking a second time will sort the corresponding column in descending order.

Holdings rows are also shown for the net cash balance and for the total portfolio value.

Closed positions holdings table

The closed positions holdings table shows each closed position, including gains/losses between the holding acquisition date(s) and the date of close:

A description of each data item in the close positions holdings table is provided below.

  • symbol - the stock symbol for the current holdings row
  • paid - the amount paid for the stock. if multiple stock purchases are identified for a given stock, then dollar cost averaging will be used to establish the 'paid' price.
