Creating custom screeners
Creating a custom screener is easy. Start by first visiting the 'investing tools -> screeners' section of the site. If you would like a 'blank' screener with no rules filled in, simply click on the 'create new screener' link on the left hand side of the page. If you would like to modify one of your screeners, one of the Stockworm default screeners, or one of the Community screeners, simply click on the appropriate section ("my", "stockworm", or "community"), then click on the screener of interest and the 'save as' to save the screener as your own before modifying it.
Example screener
As an example of creating a custom screener, go to the 'stockworm screeners' tab and click on the undervalued screener. This creates a screener with the following attributes:
- small cap stocks only
- stocks are ordered by a combination of low price-to-value ratios (undervalued) based upon each of stockworm's valuation formulas
- the 32 most undervalued stocks are returned
You can customize this screener any way that you see fit. If you would like a different stock universe, you can change the market cap setting and/or add filters based upon industry, market, equity type, etc. If you would like to add some price limits so that you don't buy penny stocks, simple add a 'price limits rule and move it above the 'keep stocks by list position' rule. If you would like to sort based upon different factors, change the sort factors or delete them and add different sort factors. Basically, you have unlimited options by mixing and matching the available rules!
Saving custom screeners
Once you have a screener that you have customized to your satisfaction, you should save the screener. Depending on whether you are starting with a screener of your own or a stockworm or community screener, you will see "save", "save as", "rename", "delete", and "share" (post to the community forums) options so that you can modify previously saved screeners.
After you have saved a screener, it will appear in the 'my screeners' section of the screener list page.
