crossing up 15-50 screener posted by B D Whitnable on 9/29/09 11:19 AM
Here is a simple screener that uses a custom trade signal called "crossing up 15-50 screener". This shows the basic technique for using custom trade signals as screens. In this case the screen returns all stocks where the 15 day moving average has crossed the 50 day moving average going up.

I put in a couple of other filters such as issue type and price. You will probably always want to put some kind of limits on the results. Might as well do it up front in the screen. In this case I wanted to exclude REITs and ADRs (real estate funds and international stocks traded in US) so I just selected "common stock". I also put a min price of $1 to stay away from penny stocks.

In order to change the moving average values (say to a 20 day moving average) you will need to change the trade signal and, to make things clear, save as a different name. Then go in and re-import that new trade signal into the screener. Note that the screener actually keeps a copy of the trade signal (not a pointer to it) so just changing the trade signal won't change the screener.
